Johnson & Leatherbarrow Opticians is a family run group of practices. We are fiercely independent and not part of any chain. The true goal of our practices is to offer exceptional customer service and the best possible eyecare we can. We have an extremely qualified and dedicated team who have spent years developing their skills to be able to offer this personalised service.

Rebecca Rietdyke


BSc(Hons)MCOptom DipTP(IP) Optometrist Director

Rebecca completed her undergraduate training at The University of Manchester and her Pre-registration training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. She has over 18 years of experience working in optometric practice. She has spent five years working with the dispensing and fitting of specialist contact lenses and has spent the last five years as an optometrist working for the hospital eye service at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, as well as in several private practices around the North West.

 

Following her in depth training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital she is now undertaking a specialist role in contact lens work and in the management of ophthalmic disorders such as glaucoma and age related macular degeneration (AMD).

Rebecca is also a fully qualified independent prescriber which allows her to prescribe drugs that are used to treat eye conditions.

Iain Johnson

MSCi BSc(Hons) FBDO CL MBCLA MCOptom Optometrist Director

Iain is an Optometrist who specialises in advanced contact lens fitting, dry eye management and optical dispensing - with extended qualifiactions in dry eye management and myopia control.

He has over 15 years experience in optics, he also regularly lectures on the subject of nutrition and eye health.

He has been a finalist and winner for both Optician, AOP and BCLA awards in 2018 / 2019 / 2020 / 2021 / 2023 for Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year, Myopia Management Practitioner of the Year and Dry Eye Practitioner of the Year.

Brian Leatherbarrow

BSC MBCHB DO FRCS FRCOPHTH Consultant Ophthalmologist Director

Mr Leatherbarrow was a Consultant Ophthalmic, Oculoplastic and Orbital surgeon at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe, from 1992 until October 2014. He was then in full time private practice until March 2023 when he retired from clinical practice. He now undertakes medicolegal expert witness work at the practice.

He has over 35 years of experience in ophthalmology and was a specialist Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon for over 30 years. His major areas of expertise are oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgery for which he has had a national and international reputation.

He graduated from Manchester Medical School in 1982, training in general ophthalmology at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital before undertaking subspecialty training fellowships in oculoplastic and orbital surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, USA.

Nicolette Marsden

BSc(Hons) MCOptom

Nicolette is an Optometrist with extended qualifications in diabetes. She obtained her degree at Manchester University and has since worked in private practice.

Alongside work Nicolette is involved with the scouts as a scout leader. She has done multiple charity events such as the 3 peaks challenge and triathlons to help raise money for the less fortunate. She travelled to Uganda as part of a team to build water filtration systems for the local communities, providing sustainable drinking water for them.

At Johnson & Leatherbarrow, Nicolette provides eye examinations, diabetic screenings, contact lens appointments, enhanced services and orthokeratology services.

Jacqueline Choudhury

BSc(Hons) MCOptom DipTp(IP)

Jacqueline is an extremely experienced Optometrist who trained at Manchester University before working in private practice. She has extended qualifications in independent prescribing and works at both practices.

At Johnson & Leatherbarrow, Jacqueline provides eye examinations, contact lens appointments and specialist emergency appointments.

    Kelly has been with the practice over 10 years. She works between the two practices offering her in-depth knowledge of all areas of optics.

    Lauren is a highly experienced Dispensing Optician with a specialist interest in bespoke lenses and myopia management.

    Alex has over 10 years experience working in the practice. She works between the two practices.
